MELT gallery in Picton, Ontario has an upcoming exhibition called DECAY in November, 2022. This sculpture was created for the exhibition.
Statement: Man destroys forests out of necessity but also out of greed. Do the trees grieve their losses and injuries? Do they cry in pain? We can learn from them, how they heal, how their roots intercommunicate.
My attention to the life of a tree was alerted by the endangerment of old growth forests by witnessing and participating in the Fairy Creek blockade on Vancouver Island in 2021. My experience is echoed in my sculpture. While building this piece, it also opened my exploration between the act of destruction, growth, and regeneration.
